Campagnolo Ekar GT 13-Speed Gravel Groupset
The new Ekar GT groupset is an all-Italian gem, designed for ease of pedaling. The celebrated 13-speed cassette, the new ergonomics of the controls and the same rear derailleur housing all the cassettes brings high-end flavor to the gravel scene.
Ekar was the first gravel groupset by Campagnolo — and claimed to be the lightest 1x groupset for gravel bikes. The focus of Ekar is performance gravel and racing. Ekar was followed by a second gravel groupset from Campagnolo, Ekar GT, designed for adventure riding and exploring. The “GT” stands for Gran Turismo, the Italian for Grand Tour, and Campagnolo suggest this groupset is for long-distance riding and bike-packing, which is why it has a wider range of gears to make climbing easier when your bike is loaded up. However, it isn’t exclusively for touring, and if you want to spend less but ride a performance range of gears with Campagnolo’s proven gravel technology, Ekar GT is an ideal option.
Ekar GT Ergopower Brake and Shift Levers
The Ekar GT Ergopower levers use an aluminium lever and feature reach adjustment range to fit your hand and finger size and meet the demands of your riding style. The leavers have have additional texture to increase your grip, whatever the conditions. The lasered pattern is also resistant to wear and tear from sweat, dirt and detergent: a solution perfect for long rides. The internal Ultra-Shift™ mechanism controls the 13-speed rear derailleur, letting the rider shift down by up to 3 sprockets in a single movement. Reliability of single downshifts is ideal for gravel rides on slippery, undulating and unpredictable terrain.
Ekar GT Cassette
With 1x gearing only and cassettes that start with a tiny 9-tooth cog, Ekar aims to match the range of 2x drivetrains “without compromise”. Ekar GT lets you fit the entire range of cassettes using the same derailleur, which also makes it easier to alter your gearing.
Ekar GT 13-speed chain
The C13 chain partners effectively with the special profile tooth design of the Ekar GT 1x13-speed crankset chainring and sprockets for safe, efficient, smooth transmission. Despite its narrow profile, the C13 chain is very strong. Its C60 steel inner links with nickel-Teflon surface treatment resist the greater wear and tear they are subjected to on gravel trails.
Construction of the Ekar GT cassette retains the Campagnolo design philosophy with a single block for the larger sprockets, five individual sprockets with spacers in aluminum 7075 and an initial triple or quadruple: this construction gives the cassette optimum lightness and reactivity. With appropriate rings and adaptors, the N3W freewheel body is compatible with all the 12-, 11- and 10-speed Campagnolo groupsets available today and in the future.
Ekar GT Chainset
Single chainrings are simple to use: no front derailleur, considerably less weight, fewer moving components that gather dirt and may cause blockages and better chain security with no useless overlapping chainrings – the perfect solution for gravel. Ekar GT is constructed from two aluminum cranks are fitted with semi axles in AISI 630 steel. Campagnolo ProTech bottom bracket (inlcuded) technology joins the two semi axles inside the bottom bracket, with a single sturdy screw. The oversize stainless steel bearing race is on the crank, fitted onto the semi axle for maximum smoothness and resistance – and to make it easy to access for inspection and maintenance without having to dismantle the cups.
There are five chainring options available: 36T, 38T, 40T, 42T, 44T. Their optimized design offers efficient transmission and maximum chain reliability.
The lightweight resistant chainrings in 7075 aluminum are easily interchangeable: simply unscrew them off the four arms of the crank with no need to dismantle the crankset. The four arms are arranged symmetrically for optimum load distribution and have a 104 mm bolt circle diameter. Changing the chainrings is a simple efficient way to change gear ratio while you tackle different kinds of terrain. The Ekar GT crankset offers three crank length options – 170, 172.5 and 175 mm – to suit cyclists and bikes of all kinds. For some gravel bikes with low bottom brackets, the shorter cranks are used the most to avoid getting stuck on uneven unpredictable terrain. A Q factor of 151 mm offers a comfortable efficient pedaling style, whatever your size.
Ekar GT & Pro Tech Bottom Bracket
There is a bottom bracket that is designed specifically for the carbon Ekar chainset, similar to existing Ultra-Torque units, but with ProTech, which Campagnolo describe as "a patented sealing ring and strong fibreglass-polyamide tube".
Ekar GT Rear Derailleur
Constructed from 7075 aluminium with carbon fiber-reinforced materials. The design of the rear derailleur with medium-length housing is compatible with the different sizes of the sprockets on all four of the cassette combination options, from 9-36 to 10-48, perfect for any gravel needs. The parallelogram’s 2D trajectory is designed specifically for the Ekar GT 1x system so that shifting entails precise mechanical movements for best use of the 13 sprockets. Its larger pulley wheels guarantee optimum working and high chain retention for security and peace of mind, whatever terrain you tackle.
The rear derailleur features a clutch, permanently engaged for enhanced chain retention reliability and minimal operational noise, can be locked forward for easy wheel removal. There are more than 70 individual carefully designed and engineered parts in the Ekar GT rear derailleur alone. Carbon fiber-reinforced polyamide and anodized 7075 and 6082 alloys are skillfully combined in the Ekar GT rear derailleur’s body and cage, for the best blend of strength, durability and light weight, ensuring long-term reliable working and to withstand the knocks, sand and dust of hardcore gravel riding, while stainless steel bolts surface treatment are used for strength and long-term resilience in the toughest conditions.
Ekar Hydraulic Brake Calipers
The Ekar GT groupset shares the same brake caliper as Ekar. The Ekar brake system’s internal hydraulics are shared with other Campagnolo high-performing calipers, using mineral oil and delivering the advanced modulation and distinctive feedback feel that works so well on the road… and works even better when you take to the gravel! Ekar's caliper has a fresh new design and finish, to coordinate with the gravel groupset’s other components. The DB310 pads – also compatible with other Campagnolo disc brakes – have a unique organic compound that not only help produce high braking performance but also deliver improved wear resistance: important in the tough world of gravel riding and racing, in wet or dry conditions. Rotors are not included in the groupset.
